Two Days Tour # 1First DayWe will pick you up at 9:00am at your hotel. The tour begins with a drive up Ulfarsfell, a mountain near Reykjavik. You will experience right from the start the enormous climbing ability of a Hummer. Moreover, the mountain offers a magnificent panoramic view over Rekjavik. From there, we will drive on to Thingvellir, where the first parliament of the world was founded in 930. We will take a short stroll there, before driving to Haukardalur to visit Geysir and its still active brother Strokur. After a short coffee break, we will take the road to Gulfloss, Iceland's most beautiful waterfall, which descends into a canyon for 32 meters, on two different levels. After this visit, we will drive further on a rugged Jeep trail, called Linavegur, a seldom travelled route, where we will need to cross many bridgeless rivers. Finally, we will reach Laxaglufer, a hidden and most impressive river. After a short stroll, we will drive to Iceland's second highest waterfall, the 122 meter-high Haifoss and observe its powerful mass of water cascade into the depths of the valley. After this break, the drive will go on through difficult terrain to Stöng, the ruins of an old Viking farm. After the eruption of the Hekla volcano in 1104, the farm, along with 34 others, was buried under a thick bed of ashes, before being excavated and rebuilt in another place following the old ground plans. Stöng offers an authentic glimpse into the lives of the settlers of that time. After the visit, we will walk in the beautiful canyon of Gjain, before reaching our countryside hotel in time for dinner at 9:00pm. Second DayThe next day, we will enjoy breakfast, with a wonderful view of the Hekla volcano, whose violent eruptions have often ravaged the surrounding landscape and are still to be feared today. After a short drive, we will reach the Hjalparfoss waterfall, from which we will return to the reconstructed Viking farm Stöng. After having familiarized ourselves with the lifestyle of 12th century Vikings, we will drive further through vast ash and lava fields in the direction of Landmannalaugur. We will then climb with the Hummer up the Ljotipollur crater, filled with turquoise water. After a short drive, we will catch a glimpse of the steaming Landmannalaugur mountains. We will take a longer break there, so that you have the opportunity to walk on one of these imposing mountains and, finally, to enjoy a bath in the hot springs. After a coffee break and some small snacks, we will drive through the strange Domadalur lava field, in order to climb up the Raudufossafjöll mountain, on the other side of the Hekla, from which there is a magnificent panoramic view of the unreal landscape. On the way back to Reykjavik, we will drive through other lava fields to the Keldur, a farmhouse converted into a small museum, which remains from the Saga times and was still inhabited in the past century. We will take a thorough visit of this historical abode, and finally reach Hella, where we will make a longer stop, once again in civilisation. If you so wish, we can have dinner together in a historical house there, before returning to Reykjavik. |
