One Day Tour # 5
After we have picked you up from your hotel and started the tour with the usual drive to Ulfarsfell, we will drive further through the Threngsli pass to two lovely craters, Stora Eldborg and Litla Eldborg, which lie in the middle of a vast lava field. After the craters' ascent, we will drive along the south coast over Herdisavik to Krysuvikurberg, which lies on the sea, in order to admire the countless sea birds. We will drive on to Krysuvik, a sulphur vapour area, where hot springs sizzle and bubble. After a short tour of the area, we will drive along the Kleifarvatn sea and turn into the beautiful Trolladyngja valley, where one can see the foundations of a collapsed farm.The drive will continue through vast lava fields to a blue lagoon, where we will take a warm bath and a coffee break. After these refreshments, we will drive to the port-town of Hafnarfjördur and go for a walk there. On the way back to Reykjavik we will visit Bessastadir, the residence of the Icelandic president and a historically very interesting place. In the 13th century, the powerful skald Snorri Sturluson ruled over Bessastadir. When he died in 1241, the area was handed over to the Norwegian King and was thus the first region of Iceland to come into foreign hands.
