One Day Tour # 1
All tours begin with a drive up Ulfarsfell, a mountain near Reykjavik, from which you will have a magnificent panoramic view of Rekjavik, the Faxafloi bay and the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Moreover, you will experience right from the start the enormous climbing ability of a Hummer.Afterwards we will drive on to Thingvellir, where the early settlers of Iceland founded the first Parliament in the world in 930. In addition to this, Thingvellir lies exactly at the place, where the American and Eurasian continental plates drift apart from each other, at the speed of 3cm per year; this phenomenon can be clearly seen in the many water-filled earth fissures there. As you stand from the top of the imposing Almannagja canyon and overlook the vast countryside, you will experience unsullied nature, just as the first settlers of Iceland did.
From Thingvellir, the tour continues past Laugarvatn, where we will ascend a high mountain and drive further to Haukaladur, and visit Geysir and its brother Strokur, which catapults its hot water fountain into the air at regular intervals. After an extensive visit of this natural wonder and a coffee break, we will drive to Gullfoss, Iceland's most beautiful waterfall, which cascades into a canyon, on two different levels for 32 meters. We will drive further on a highland route, up the glacier Hagavatn, almost until the edge of the Langjökull glacier. On the way back we will drive through vast farmland and pass by Reykholt, an ancient Episcopal see, as well as the explosion craters Kerith and Hveragerdi, before we return to Reykjavik by way of the Hellisheidi lava field.
