General InformationAll tours will start and end in front of your hotel, leaving everyday at 9:00am. The daily trips will usually last between ten and twelve hours; however, we will rarely drive for more than an hour at a time, frequently stopping on our way in interesting places to go on hikes, with enough time to take photographs or drink and snack breaks. While planning our tours, we have tried our best to guarantee, as often as possible, hotel accommodations with double room including shower and toilet. The hotels, while simple, are nevertheless frequently equipped with a warm water swimming pool, whirlpool or sauna. However, when we will be spending time in the highland, it will not always be possible to arrange hotel accommodations. We will then spend the night in mountain huts, with mattresses and sleeping bags. The experience of nature on such tours will be enhanced by the warm natural pools, which one often finds near such huts and whose warm, kieselguhr filled water is wonderfully relaxing. The evening barbecues in front of the huts are always very entertaining and cozy and will allow you to get to know the other travellers, who are staying with you. VehiclesHummer Jeeps, equipped to the max, outfitted with satellite phone, GPS Navigation and cable winch. The Hummers accommodate three to five guests; the travel groups are purposefully kept small.Certain trips will be taken, as a safety measure, with 2 Hummers. Most tours only take place in the summer months: nevertheless we will be able to take you during the winter tours, to certain fascinating winter destinations. Number of ParticipantsMinimum 3 people to a Hummer, 5 people to a second Hummer. Maximum of 8 participants.EquipmentBecause the weather in Iceland can change quickly, one should always have the following items of clothing in ones luggage:
Because it canoccasionally be very warm, we also recommend that you bring light shirts or t-shirts, sunglasses, a bathing suit, a towel and soap. For the several day tours, one should bring a larger change of clothing. It is always a good idea to layer clothing, so that you can dress or un-dress according to the changing weather conditions. As old Icelanders say, there is no bad weather just incorrectly dressed people. Apart from the right clothing, you should also remember to bring sufficient photo equipment. Please do not travel with hard-shelled suitcases, as they are difficult to store in a vehicle and are dangerous on steep roads. It is better to stow away your things in sports-bags. |
